West Ham Injury News: Yarmolenko will not play again this season

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that Andriy Yarmolenko will not return to action before the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

What’s the story?

Sky Sports quotes Pellegrini as saying:

“Yarmolenko is working very well, he has no pain, he is running and kicking the ball, but maybe it will be too soon for him to play before we finish.

“The Achilles tendon is one of the worst injuries you can have because you cannot go faster, you must exercise the ligament and then wait. To play this season I don’t think would be good for him. It would be better to do a very good pre-season.”If you return after a long injury you get muscle injuries. He must be calm and wait for next season working hard, and we will see the player that we brought because he is a very good player.”

Yarmolenko has been on the sidelines since suffering a torn Achilles against Tottenham Hotspur in October, which required an operation.

It had been thought that the 29-year-old could return to action before the end of the season.

Pellegrini has provided a positive update on the 80-time Ukraine international, but has insisted that no risks will be taken with the attacker, meaning that he will not be seen in a West Ham shirt until pre-season.

How has Yarmolenko performed since arriving?

West Ham secured the services of Yarmolenko from Borussia Dortmund in July 2018.

He played in each of the London club’s first nine Premier League matches of the campaign, scoring twice and providing one assist.

Both of the attacker’s goals came in a 3-1 victory at Goodison Park in September and it did appear that the Ukrainian was just finding his feet before picking up the injury in the league against Spurs on October 20.

There is no question that the Hammers have missed his craft and knowhow in recent months, but having the 6 ft 2 ace fit and firing for the start of the 2019-2020 campaign will be like a new signing for the club.

Rangers fans react to triple transfer update

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to some transfer news, as Chris Jack of The Evening Times delivered a huge update on three summer targets.

According to The Evening Times, Steven Gerrard still wants to bring Greg Stewart, John Souttar and Jake Hastie to Ibrox this summer.

There have been conflicting reports about the moves particularly when it comes to Hastie, who one day is set to sign on the dotted line and the next day the deal is off if the never-ending rumour mill is to be believed.

According to Jack’s report though, all three are still on Gerrard’s wish-list for the summer.

The report claims Rangers are “closing on” on a move for Stewart, who will be available for free when his contract expires this summer.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

It also states that a move for Hastie could “now be back on the cards”, while Hearts defender Souttar is still a target as well.

Loads of fans have been reacting to the news, and it seems to be a mixed response from the Ibrox faithful. Take a look at the best from Twitter down below…

Leeds United: Club’s U23’s success shows where future should lay under Bielsa

All the signs are there that Leeds United could be about to enter another golden generation in terms of producing top-quality academy players.

A distinguished youth policy at the club has seen the likes of Lewis Cook, Tom Cairney and Danny Rose amongst others go onto represent clubs in the Premier League in recent years.

Upon the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa in the summer, the Whites have decided once again to prioritise homegrown players with a number of promising young talents breaking through this season. Jack Clarke, Jamie Shackleton and Bailey Peacock-Farrell have all experienced regular game time in the Championship with all three demonstrating promising signs in what is arguably England’s most competitive league.

Whereas some club’s in the second tier decide to spend abnormal amounts of money in their quest to reach the Premier League, Leeds have undeniably benefited from utilising their own academy graduates as they now find themselves within touching distance of promotion this season.

If they do overcome either Norwich City or Sheffield United in the next eight games to secure a top-two finish, Bielsa must continue to call upon homegrown players, especially when you consider just how well they are doing in the youth leagues this season.

A 2-0 win over Colchester United for the club’s under 23’s in the Professional Development League North on Monday saw the Whites secure the title ahead of the likes of Birmingham and Burnley. Even if only two or three of the players involved against the U’s breakthrough to Leeds’ first team over the coming years, it will prove that they must continue to look to their academy in the future.

Not only is it cost-efficient to bring through youth players but it can also bring immense pride to supporters of a club, especially if they are born in and around the region of the team they represent. In contrast, bringing in expensive transfers from elsewhere could easily backfire and in extreme cases create a disconnect between fans and the side they follow.

What do you think Leeds fans? Should Bielsa continue to bring through academy products at Elland Road? Or would you prefer your club to spend big in the summer instead? Let us know below.

The Denayer example: Leicester should let Soyuncu turn career around in Turkey

[ad_pod ]

Leicester centre back Caglar Soyuncu is attracting the interest of Fenerbahce and could make a move to the Turkish giants on loan in the summer, according to Fotospor. But if an offer were to come in, should the Foxes allow him to depart?

What’s the word?

The 22-year-old defender has had a torrid first season in England, featuring just five times since signing for the Midlands club ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

As such, Leicester may seek to loan the player out when the transfer window opens and Fenerbahce seem to be his potential suitors.

Soyuncu had gained a promising reputation at Freiburg in the Bundesliga last campaign, so much so that Arsenal reportedly had interest in him. But his stock hasn’t exactly risen since arriving in the Premier League, with a loan move arguably the best way forward for his development.

Former Liverpool man Martin Skrtel is set to leave Fenerbahce after discussions over a new contract broke down, so Soyuncu could replace him.

Planning for the future

A move to the Turkish league may not be very attractive or fill Leicester fans with confidence for Soyuncu’s future, but a prior success story comes in the form of Jason Denayer.

He is the definition of an enigmatic defender but after having a disastrous spell with Sunderland has bounced back tremendously following a season with Galatasaray.

The former Manchester City man impressed there but has since joined Lyon and become one of their most consistent players, starring in the Champions League and particularly in a game against his old team.

Leicester can not only learn from that but in Filip Benkovic they have a proven trick that works when it comes to loans, something they should repeat with Soyuncu. Another up and coming centre back, he has benefited from a season away with Celtic and should come straight into the side when he returns to the King Power this summer.

The Foxes should follow that previous recipe in the hope that a spell away from the club for their young Turkish defender can help them prepare for when the likes of Wes Morgan and Jonny Evans move on.

Sign it: Tottenham fans again plead with Toby Alderweireld to pen fresh deal

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans have made another plea for Toby Alderweireld to sign a new contract with the club.

Alderweireld will see his current deal with Spurs expire in the summer of 2020.

A £26m release clause will come into effect at the end of the 2018-19 campaign, though, and Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move as the Red Devils prepare to improve their back four.

It does seem likely that the Belgium international will move on in this summer’s transfer window, which will be awful news for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Alderweireld stepped out inside the wonderful new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, but even that might not convince the centre-back to sign on.

The London club’s fans are still hopeful that will be the case, however, with a number taking to social media to plead with the former Atletico Madrid ace yet again.

Crystal Palace: There are major problems with the club’s attack

Frustrations were apparent at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon. In what was a sombre day for the Huddersfield Town squad and fans, who saw themselves relegated with six games to go, Crystal Palace’s afternoon didn’t go exactly as they would’ve wanted either.

After the disappointing FA Cup exit, the Eagles were intent on making a statement. While they did notch up a victory eventually, they should’ve done it by packing a bigger punch. In an end-to-end game where Palace attempted 19 shots on goal, they only got 5 on target, with the rest from promising positions resulting in some of their worst finishing this season.

That, frankly, isn’t at all good enough.

If things went better, it could’ve been a cricket score! Their attacking trio of Wilfried Zaha, Michy Batshuayi and Andros Townsend were all guilty of some poor decision-making in the final third, leading to shockingly scuffed chances.  Be it missing from yards out or from prime goal-scoring positions, they missed golden opportunities to round off some beautiful moves created by through some impressive team-work.

Obviously, no Palace fan reading this will need telling that a new striker must be bought over the course of the summer. However, the lack of one right now isn’t the only major issue seriously undermining the club’s attack. Indeed, it seems as if every forward-thinking player is struggling to convince in the final third, hinting at a much deeper issue on the training field and the like.

On a day where they could’ve exponentially improved their goal-difference, they ended up frustrating themselves with poor misses. Roy Hodgson needs to get them firing more often in front of goal, as the Eagles need to be much more clinical in the attacking third.

Chances won’t come as easily for Palace in every match. They cannot afford to miss from easy goal-scoring positions and need to integrate more lethality into their finishing to have a chance of an unlikely top-half table finish and beyond.

Palace fans, do you think the men upfront need to train on improving their finishing? Join the discussion by commenting below…

Hugo Lloris has got to go if Tottenham Hotspur want to break their reputation

It seems poor form is rewarded nowadays with Tottenham Captain Hugo Lloris set to face another year in the Premier League unchallenged.

Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris added another shocker to an already long list of shameful mistakes on Sunday literally handing Liverpool the victory, opening the door for Arsenal to pass them in the table. However, despite a comedy of errors that would literally see any other player out of a squad, either temporarily or permanently, the Frenchman has somehow escaped with further guarantees over his future.

Indeed, according to the Daily Mail, Mauricio Pochettino has no intention of signing a new goalkeeper this summer, instead opting to strengthen other areas of the pitch.

Central midfield is a major point of concern and will be the focus of much of Tottenham’s resources, and those we can pretty confidently say are enjoying their final months with Spurs is defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama, who has been forced to the periphery of the squad in recent seasons, and donkey Moussa Sissoko. A new left-back, forward and creative midfielder are also said to be on the priority list.

Where this will come as welcome news to Spurs fans, who are preparing for a new prosperous life in their fresh stadium and haven’t enjoyed any transfer activity this season, it certainly isn’t everything they wanted to hear.

At the very least Tottenham should be signing a quality keeper to compete with their complacent, error-prone captain Hugo Lloris, who earns £100k-a-week, according to Spotrac.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2 (quote via Daily Mail) former Spurs man Jermaine Jenas said: ‘If Spurs want to kick on and have any aspirations of challenging for the league or winning major trophies, then it is a position they need to start looking at.

‘He [Lloris] should be at the peak of his powers right now but he actually looks more nervous now than he did when he arrived from Lyon seven years ago.’

He’s not wrong. Too long has the urgency been glossed over by the occasional outstanding performance from the France international, something needs to change. Daniel Levy simply has to bite the bullet and ditch the Frenchman.

Tottenham fans, do you think it’s time your club signed a new keeper? Let us know in the comments below…

The Chalkboard: Wide play will be key for Man United in crucial West Ham clash

[ad_pod ]

Since sending French champions Paris Saint-Germain flying out of the UEFA Champions League, Manchester United have just one win in five and are well and truly in a slump under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, there’s one key area they can exploit to return to form against West Ham United on Saturday evening.

United’s recent downfall

The latest disappointing result in this torrid five-match streak arrived for the Red Devils on Wednesday night, the Champions League round-of-16 first-leg defeat to Barcelona.

On that night, United’s main downfall was largely attributed by fans as being their wing-backs and the system that allowed those players to operate in those roles.

On the right side was club captain Ashley Young and he was fiercely hounded on social media post-match for his questionable performance against the high quality of the Spanish champions.

Meanwhile, despite not doing too badly in an unfamiliar role, Diogo Dalot on the other flank missed a huge chance that could have changed the whole course of the match in the first half.

However, as tempting as it may be for Solskjaer to change things up in this department for Saturday evening’s visit of Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham to Old Trafford he must stick to his guns with the wing-backs.

The secret to smashing the Hammers – their big weakness

By giving his side as much width as possible in using wing-backs once more, the new permanent boss in Manchester would be exploiting the Irons’ biggest defensive weakness and utilising the secret to smashing the Hammers – the wide areas.

Pellegrini has rotated his full-backs constantly this season and just as it started to look like a stable partnership of Aaron Cresswell on the left and Ryan Fredericks on the right was forming, they’ve both entered a run of poor form.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

Waiting in the wings to replace either of them after sub-par displays at Chelsea last Monday night are Pablo Zabaleta and Arthur Masuaku who are even weaker options.

The fun and games that Eden Hazard was able to enjoy against Fredericks at Stamford Bridge would inspire the young Dalot. The opposing flank represents a bigger conundrum with Young and Luke Shaw both suspended, but that only facilitates for a much more attacking option like Jesse Lingard to exploit West Ham’s big weakness.

Much of the same out wide is needed for Solskjaer in order for United to move back towards the top four.
