Everton: Moise Kean set to stay on the bench

Marco Silva has suggested that Moise Kean is set to stay on the Everton bench for a while longer, as reported by The Telegraph.

Everton signed Kean from Juventus for an initial £25.1m this summer, as reported by BBC Sport, but he hasn’t started either of the Toffees’ two matches so far this season.

He was quoted as saying: “JP [Jean-Philippe Gbamin] is a 23-year-old player with experience, and he has to adapt fast to the way of thinking because it is faster in the Premier League.

“With Kean it is really different, we are talking about a really young player. Last season he started about five matches at a high level, so we have to give this time to him to learn. He can help the team in specific moments, and then we work with him to get him ready.”

Kean started five Serie A matches for Juventus last season, coming on as a substitute eight times, scoring six goals, as per WhoScored.

So far this season he has come on as a substitute in both of Everton’s Premier League matches, amassing a total of 39 minutes.

That is, of course, very little time for anyone to make an impact in a new team and league – so far he has averaged 1.5 dribbles and has been fouled 1 time per games, while he hasn’t misplaced a pass yet.

It seems as though Kean will need to be patient in his pursuit of regular minutes at Everton, as Silva looks to nurture the Italian into someone he feels is ready to lead the line as well as get the goals.

The 19-year-old’s time will surely come though and, looking at some of the raw stats above as well as his impress record at Juventus, it’s not hard to imagine him taking it.

Wolves predicted starting XI against Torino for crucial Europa League tie

[ad_pod ]

Tonight marks a potentially historic occasion for Wolves as they are just one result away from making the Europa League group stage for the first time in their history.

They require a 1-0 defeat or better at Molineux, so it could be said that they already have one foot in the next round.

On Sunday, Nuno Santo’s men looked rather sluggish and needed a 96th-minute penalty from Raul Jimenez to salvage a point against Burnley, which meant it was three draws from three in the Premier League.

That run of results could point towards the potential effect that playing in Europe has had on the squad as they are yet to record a league victory this season.

Have you heard the strangest chant in the Premier League yet? Hear it in the video below…

Wolves have played six games in under three weeks, so with them appearing somewhat lethargic at the weekend, the Portuguese boss may make some changes – there are only so many games this tight-knit group can take in such a short space of time considering just 16 different players have been used in domestic competitions so far.

This is what we predict:

Santo did slightly rotate his side against Burnley, bringing Morgan Gibbs-White into midfield for example, but he is likely to revert back to the trio of Ruben Neves, Leander Dendoncker and Joao Moutinho.

Mexican striker Jimenez has played 41 matches in 2019 for club and country, and in the last five months has continued to nurse a broken wrist – but don’t expect him to be dropped for this tie.

Alongside him, there could be a change though with Patrick Cutrone coming in for key man Diogo Jota – he has plenty of experience facing Torino having joined the west Midlands club from AC Milan, where he racked up ten goals in 18 appearances in the Europa League, per Transfermarkt.

It was revealed earlier this week that Matt Doherty is still some way off expected fitness levels so it would make sense for Adama Traore to return to the position he has performed so well in this season – the 5 foot 10 winger-turned-defender has two assists in the competition.

Ruben Vinagre may pair him on the other side with Jesus Vallejo coming back in to replace the poor performing Ryan Bennett, which would be likely anyway as the 22-year-old has only played in Europe for Wolves this season.

Leeds’ poor summer further called into question after David Prutton comments

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to The Yorkshire Evening Post, pundit David Prutton has hinted that Leeds could struggle to achieve promotion in the upcoming season.

What’s he said?

Leeds fell desperately short last term, being beaten to a second-place finish and automatic promotion by Sheffield United before then collapsing in the play-offs.

Against Derby, they fell apart as Frank Lampard’s men secured the victory over two legs and progressed to the final.

Given injuries to the likes of Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford throughout the campaign, it was some effort to get to where they were under Marcelo Bielsa.

However, Prutton has told YEP that it will again be a monumental endeavour, especially with the same set of players, hinting that they may well struggle unless things change. He said:

“I think it’s going to take another superhuman effort from a group of players that unless they are working off something vastly different in pre-season are going to have to try and repeat the same trick but with the opposition knowing what goes on behind the curtain.

“It will be a phenomenal achievement if they manage to do it with a very similar set of players.”

Further fuel to the fire

Prutton’s comments are rather indicative of the poor summer Leeds have had and arguably he is right to suggest that it will be some achievement if they find themselves in a similar position.

The fact is that Leeds’ squad hasn’t really improved since last term.

One of their defensive mainstays in Pontus Jansson has left whilst it remains to be seen how Ben White copes with stepping up a level.

Liam Cooper, of course, was named in the PFA Team of the Year but at times has looked suspect alongside Gaetano Berardi in pre-season.

In attack, they’ve done little to strengthen either with Jack Harrison returning and Helder Costa walking through the doors but they’ll go into the campaign with Bamford and Roofe as their only viable options up top, and the latter has already been ruled out for four weeks.

But what is most concerning, however, is that the core of this squad is still very much the same one that finished 13th only two years ago.

It would be harsh to say that last year was a fluke, but Bielsa and Andrea Radrizzani could and maybe should have done more in this window.

If they’d made improvements to their personnel more, the size of the task on their hands may have been smaller.

Arsenal overpaid for Nicolas Pepe according to talkSPORT pundit

[ad_pod ]Did Arsenal overpay for £70m man Nicolas Pepe? We’re only four games into the season but in the 243 Premier League minutes, we’ve seen the 24-year-old play it’s fair to say he’s got some ability. The way he effortlessly courses around the pitch with the ball stuck to his feet is admirable, and the speed in which he does it is impressive. Lest we forget, Pepe became the first player to successfully dribble past Virgil van Dijk in 50 Premier League games.Watch Arsenal Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

But then there are a number of players who can run around quickly in the Premier League. Just look at the state of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Adama Traore. That man-cheetah-thing is about as quick as they come – is he suddenly going to fetch millions in the market? Probably not.

What are we meant to expect from our star signings in the modern game, taking inflation into account? Do we demand an immediate impact, or should patiently wait for them to (possibly) become one of the best talents in the world? Is creeping progression really worth the wait? Should we measure their success by the immediacy of their impact? After all, if a club pays big money, they have every right to expect serious output, and Pepe hasn’t necessarily given that.

Darren Gough and talkSPORT Drive have weighed in on the subject with their own analysis…

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford congratulates Wan-Bissaka after England squad announcement

[ad_pod ]It didn’t take Aaron Wan-Bissaka too long after his move to Manchester United to get his first England call-up.The right-back position for the Three Lions is one of the most competitive roles in the squad, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier all vying for a spot.Because of the quality and depth in that position, Gareth Southgate didn’t select Wan-Bissaka during his time at Crystal Palace, but just weeks after his United debut he’s in the England squad. He’s seemingly settled in very quickly at Old Trafford as one of his new teammates took to social media to congratulate him.

Marcus Rashford was also named in Southgate’s squad for the upcoming qualifiers against Kosovo and Bulgaria, but rather than focus on his own achievements he wanted to pay tribute to his teammate.

With Trippier and Alexander-Arnold also in the squad it remains to be seen whether or not Wan-Bissaka will earn his first cap, but being called up to the squad is an achievement in itself, and Rashford wanted to congratulate his friend.

The defender is clearly already a popular figure at Old Trafford, and that certainly bodes well for the team as high squad morale will only improve performances on the pitch.

Tottenham’s failure to nurture Marcus Edwards’ talent is on Mauricio Pochettino

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold, speaking during a Tottenham Q&A (entry 13:03), academy graduate Marcus Edwards is likely to move abroad in a bid to progress his career.

What’s the word?

The 20-year-old has come through the ranks at Spurs and appeared to make a breakthrough into the first-team after impressing during the club’s pre-season tour in 2016.

However, since then the England U20 international has struggled to feature for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and has had loan spells at Norwich and Excelsior.

Now, Gold has claimed that following his time in the Netherlands last season, Edwards is likely to follow in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho and Reece Oxford in moving abroad.

Gold adds the Spurs academy graduate doesn’t seem to have any place in Pochettino’s plans and there are simply “too many players ahead of him now”.

A failure on Pochettino’s part

Back in September 2016, the Spurs boss made the cardinal sin that plenty of managers tend to do with a young prospect – he got carried away. Pochettino drew a lofty comparison between the styles of play of Edwards and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, and insisted he could be a “top player”. One of the key things the Argentine also mentioned was that it was their “responsibility” to help him become that.

Fast forward almost three years, and seeing Edwards nowhere near Spurs’ first-team plans is shocking to say the least. The 20-year-old has had his attitude questioned, and that is never a good look for a young star looking to make it to the top. But perhaps Pochettino ought to have personally intervened in his career.

Sending him on loan to build up first-team experience is understandable, but Edwards could have benefited much more from being around the hard-working environment in north London. It would have taught him what is required to become the very best, and he would have been rubbing shoulders with fellow English stars like Harry Kane and Dele Alli. They no doubt would have set him straight if things went awry.

Let’s also not forget that the manager left Jan Vertgonhen out against Aston Villa last weekend due to question marks over his fitness and effort in pre-season, and that sort of no-nonsesne approach could have set Edwards straight had he stuck around.

So whilst Pochettino’s work on developing players is quite rightly applauded, the career path of Edwards is becoming a blot on the Spurs boss’ copybook.

Celtic fans aren’t happy with Sutton & Currie’s Team of the Week

[ad_pod ]

The Celtic support have come together in sharing their disappointment at the BT Sport Team of the Week, after their side’s 7-0 annihilation of St. Johnstone.

BT Sport presenter Darrell Currie and pundit Chris Sutton have picked their top XI of players from the opening weekend of the Premiership season, and it has left the Celts fans far from pleased.

Only three of their stars have made it into the side, despite having utterly obliterated the Saints on Saturday.

Ryan Christie, Odsonne Edouard and Mikey Johnston were the only Bhoys to feature despite the emphatic win, with Neil Lennon picking up the manager award for the opening round of fixtures.

Some supporters have called for the entire side to be made up of the 11 that started the mauling on Saturday. Others would’ve liked to have seen early-season stars Nir Bitton and Kristoffer Ajer included in the inaugural Team of the Week of the new league season.

Manchester United: Fans want Bruno Fernandes to be the club’s one signing before Thursday’s deadline

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the club needs one more signing ahead of the close of the window, according to The Athletic and touched on earlier by the Manchester Evening News.

Manchester United fans took to Twitter to express their thoughts on just who their ‘one signing’ should be with many pointing to Sporting CP’s Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes has come off the back of a record-breaking season last campaign, as he broke Frank Lampard’s (27) record for most goals from midfield in a season (32).

The report comes off the back of the club’s world record deal for defender Harry Maguire, who was signed for £80m from Premier League side Leicester City.

The Old Trafford giants have also made the signings of Aaron Wan-BissakaÂand Daniel James this summer.

Fans are adamant that Fernandes is the right man for the club, and took to Twitter to beg their club to sign the 24-year-old.

Here is a selection of tweets from the Old Trafford faithful following the reports:
