Sheffield United have to ensure 22-year-old is number one priority this summer: Opinion

Sheffield United completed a return to the Premier League last weekend with a 2-o home win over Ipswich Town.

The Blades beat Leeds United to the punch and at the time of writing, were still well within a shout of winning the Championship all together.

However, regardless of their excellent season this time around, next year will be a whole different ball game, and the summer is set to be a huge one for the Blades as they look to bring in new talent to ensure they maintain their place in the top flight.

One man who is desperate to sign and is heavily linked with a move to the club again is goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who was simply superb for United this year.

The 22-year-old England under-21 international is loved at Bramall Lane, and he simply has to be the player who Blades manager Chris Wilder ensures is first through the door.

Indeed, Wilder has admitted that talks are underway to bring Henderson back to the club, and he would be a huge boost to proceedings if he can return to Bramall Lane.

While his character is something what shines through, it is easy to forget that Henderson is indeed a quality operator in between the sticks, something his 21 clean sheets this season demonstrate.

Henderson has the potential to go down as one of the greats with Sheffield United if he can keep on his upward curve and play his part in keeping the club in the top flight, while for Man United, they could well have unearthed their number one for years to come if he can continue to develop.

Sunderland fans split on who is to blame for drawing 19 games

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Sunderland fans have been discussing the issue that has plagued their season and likely prevented them from gaining automatic promotion – too many draws.

Sunderland travel to Fleetwood on Tuesday night, where Joey Barton will no doubt be desperate to get one over on the Black Cats.

Jack Ross’ side need to win both of their remaining games to even have a chance of going up as part of the top two, while Barnsley and Portsmouth would both have to drop points also.

Pl>ymaker FC Exclusive: Jermaine Jenas reveals why Tyne-Wear is a more intense derby than anything London can offer – check out the video below….

And it’s not hard to see why the team with arguably the best squad in League One has struggled so much – they have drawn 19 games.

To put that in perspective, the three teams above Sunderland have 13, 13 and 12 draws respectively, as far too often this season Ross’ side have gone one goal to the good but paid the price for not finding a second goal.

And plenty of fans are giving their verdict on who is to blame, with some suggesting poor quality in the squad as a factor while others point the finger at the boss.

Liverpool fans react to reports of Barcelona targeting Divock Origi

[ad_pod ]

If the reports from Mundo Deportivo are to be believed, Barcelona are supposedly targeting Liverpool’s Divock Origi as a potential Luis Suarez replacement in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Catalans are on a lookout for someone who can rack up the goals or at the very least relieve the Uruguayan of some of his responsibilities and Origi seems like a great fit. Liverpool fans, however, are not having any of it.

The Reds were quick to express their wishes to keep the forward at Anfield, unless, of course, Lionel Messi and a hefty sum of money come the other way. A rather ambitious and, more importantly, sarcastic way of getting the message across:

Of course, after his heroics against Barcelona in the Champions League, who could blame them for wanting to keep the forward who played a big role in their route to the final.

Even though most of the Kopites are responding to this with banter, and rightfully so, there were some who expressed genuine concern, wishing for Origi’s stay at Liverpool.

Here’s a look at how Liverpool fans reacted to the news on Twitter…

Chancer: Wolves fans respond to copyright claims against the club’s badge

[ad_pod ]

Wolves have been creating plenty of headlines on the pitch this season but now headlines are also being made off it.

This week, a man in his 70’s made a copyright complaint against the club, claiming that he was the person to originally draw up the designs for the club’s crest.

In a bizarre turn of events, the case is being overseen in a trial at the High Court in London.

Is it unrealistic to expect another top half finish from Wolves next season? HRH discusses in the video below…

Peter Davies has said that he originally made the design when he was at school in the early 1960’s, but has only just brought the matter to light in recent years.

As a result, Wolves fans appear to be completely baffled, reacting to the report in the Express & Star.

One supporter called the individual a complete chancer, whilst another simply muttered that the whole situation was a joke.

Other fans chose to respond sarcastically, attempting to claim they’d invented the wolf and drawn pictures just like it.

The judge heard in court that Davies initially registered the complaint in 2016. However, last year the club tried to have the case thrown out, per the Express & Star.

Here’s what’s been said:

Crystal Palace: Handing out-of-favour Connor Wickham new contract makes no sense

It’s almost as if Crystal Palace don’t want their striker crisis to end.

Indeed, rather than working on the deals for signing some quality strikers, they’re seemingly rewarding the mediocrity which has plagued their seasons over the past few years.

Maybe Steve Parish is deluded enough to think Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend will be there to save the day all the time. Well, he’s certainly divided opinion by extending the contract of outcast Connor Wickham, who only made seven appearances all season last time out. In those, he only netted one goal and assisted one in the meantime.

Terrible, terrible stuff.

While it seemed like Wickham was on the rise after his FA Cup stunner against Tottenham Hotspur, the ghost of injury haunted him again. That being said, Palace shouldn’t become the club which empathizes too much with injury-prone players. They can’t afford to waste money on players on the sidelines all the time, especially considering how toothless their attack has been.

Obviously, Wickham looked a lethal striker years ago but has lost his lethal finishing ability with all his persistent injuries. Why reward a player who’s turned into a has-been and lost the ability to compete at the top? Something only Parish can answer.

Rewarding a player who last scored a Premier League goal three years ago shows Palace’s lack of urgency in boosting the striker’s department. Frankly, as long as the inconsistent striker is a viable option, the Eagles will never be able to break into the top half of the highly competitive league.

In The Pipeline: Leeds U23 star Kun Temenuzhkov

[ad_pod ]

After Leeds’ Under 23s made it into the final of the Professional Development League fans of the Yorkshire club have been getting excited about several young prospects. Perhaps the most promising of the bunch is the 19-year-old who scored the winner on Monday, Kun Temenuzhkov.

Standing at just 5 ft 4 the striker doesn’t have a huge physical presence, meaning that the technical side of his game has to be top notch – and it most certainly is.

Nabbed from Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy aged just 17 the Bulgarian has shown signs of possessing the pedigree required to one day turn out for La Blaugrana.

The striker netted 30 goals in 30 games for one of Barcelona’s youth sides before making the switch to Yorkshire where he has continued his development.

Temenuzhkov has already made his Leeds debut, playing 11 minutes against QPR in an FA Cup tie earlier this season.

As well as being an astute finisher the diminutive forward also has excellent feet and a knack for scoring from range, as shown by his incredible goal on Monday evening.

The Bulgarian’s wonder-strike showed exactly what he is capable of in the future. He picked up the ball on the edge of the box, dropped a shoulder to leave two defenders in the dirt before smashing the ball into the top corner.

The striker had previously been likened to Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez, and you can’t argue that his thunderbolt against Coventry wasn’t Suarez-esque.

The Guardian placed him alongside the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Vinicius Junior in their 2017 list of the 60 best young players in the world. If the Bulgarian comes anywhere close to fulfilling his touted potential then Elland Road may be set to see the most talented player to come through Leeds’ ranks in years.

Chelsea: Waiting another year for Frank Lampard is the right thing to do

In many ways, it has been a rather strange season for everyone associated with Chelsea.

The Blues started their Premier League campaign in lightning fashion and Maurizio Sarri had looked to be a rather good appointment. However, when the club tasted their first defeat in all competitions in November (against Tottenham Hotspur of all teams!), the wheels appeared to come off and things did not go to plan for the SW6 outfit.

Frustrations at the Italian’s team selection and his stubbornness to continue playing his famed ‘Sarri-ball’ led to a number of the fans in the Stamford Bridge stands telling them exactly what they felt about it in no uncertain terms.

Despite all the calls for his head, Sarri still managed to guide Chelsea into a top-four finish and they of course still have a Europa League final against old foes Arsenal still to come.

However, that has not stopped the reports circulating about his future at the club this summer and has even led to the manager himself stating that he would need to have discussions with the board after the final in Baku (Sky Sports).

Frank Lampard has been heavily tipped to replace him and make a hero’s return after his sensational debut year in management with Derby County – and don’t forget, he could still cap it off by helping the Rams win promotion to the Premier League.

But, according to The Sun, it seems that he will not be in charge of Chelsea just yet provided Sarri stays on.

It is claimed Roman Abramovich and the club’s hierarchy are prepared to wait on bringing him back to Stamford Bridge and feel he can benefit from another year at Pride Park.

And, it would make perfect sense for everyone involved in west London if that were to happen.

Lampard has been impressive; that cannot be argued. However, whether he is ready to be tested in the Premier League as a manager is something that is unknown. As mentioned, this is his first year in management! Not many are able to come in and do a job straight away.

By giving him another year (and potentially one in the Premier League), Lampard would be able to gain some valuable experience and be able to learn more about himself in terms of his managerial style, without the pressure of winning silverware on his shoulders straight away.

Let’s not forget, Abramovich is not the type to hand someone time as patience is clearly a virtue he was never blessed with. By bringing the legend back to the club at this stage of his career could ruin him if things were not to work out and could make his future in the game a little more difficult – just look at what happened to Roberto Di Matteo despite his Champions League and FA Cup heroics.

If the Russian billionaire does as the report suggests, it would have to be seen as the best thing for Chelsea at this moment in time.

Chelsea fans, what do you think? Should Lampard have another year in management before taking the hotseat at Stamford Bridge? Let us know your thoughts below!

Celtic fans react as Neil Lennon reportedly wants to re-sign Gary Hooper

[ad_pod ]

According to The Scottish Sun, Neil Lennon wants to re-sign Gary Hooper during the summer if he is appointed Celtic manager on a permanent basis, and Bhoys fans have been quick to react on Twitter.

The Scottish Sun report the 31-year-old would be keen on a return to Parkhead having been released by Sheffield Wednesday following the conclusion of the Owls’ Championship campaign.

The report states that Lennon, who brought Hooper to the club from Scunthorpe United in 2010, is yet to hear what the future holds for him, but he is surely in a good position having steered the club to the title despite the upheaval of losing Brendan Rodgers before the run-in.

The striker scored 82 goals in 138 appearances in all competitions for the Glasgow giants before moving south of the border.

Should he make a remarkable return to Celtic Park, he would likely be competing with the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths for a spot up top, should the duo stay this summer.

Controversial. Uncompromising. Leader. C’mon the Hoops’ Keith talks the future of Celtic’s evergreen captain Scott Brown in the video below…

Celtic supporters have taken to social media to have their say on the rumour, and while one said it “should be enough reason for the board to go all out and get Jose Mourinho”, another said they “don’t understand the logic”.

Not everyone was against the idea though, with one saying “yes I would” when discussing whether they would want him back.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
