Incerteza no Ataque

Força do Interior

Do outro lado está o Caxias. Considerado uma das forças do interior, o time Grená apresenta um futebol consistente e quer se aproveitar do contra-ataque para surpreender o Internacional dentro de casa.

Prováveis Escalações

Internacional: Marcelo Lomba; Zeca, Rodrigo Moledo, Víctor Cuesta e Iago; Rodrigo Dourado e Edenílson; William Pottker, D’Alessandro e Neilton; Tréllez (Pedro Lucas)

Caxias: Lee; Muriel, Júnior Alves, Thiago Salles e Samuel Balbino; Marabá, Foguinho, Diego Miranda e Rafael Gava; Bruno Alves e Ruan.

Lancashire target immediate promotion

Lancashire will begin the Championship season looking to secure an immediate return to Division One, according to coach, Peter Moores

Lancashire’s young squad have had to put last year’s relegation behind them•Getty Images

Deep into last season the hoardings around Old Trafford’s many redevelopment projects sported advertisements aimed at recruiting new members for Lancashire. Their main feature was a cropped photograph from the previous year’s Championship triumph at Taunton. Sweaty, ecstatic faces beamed out at the Manchester public. “Let’s do it all over again!” bellowed the posters. By August they looked like a bit of a bad joke.Having won ten matches in 2011, Glen Chapple’s team registered just one success last summer and were relegated to Division Two with a meagre 106 points. A joke did the rounds in September that Lancashire had more seats in their new press box than points in the table. The dejection felt by the predominantly young Red Rose squad in the Lord’s dressing room after their fate had been confirmed was a new experience for most of them but it was also an unwelcome novelty for their coach Peter Moores, who had guided Sussex to the title in 2003 before masterminding Lancashire’s success two years ago. So the new season will offer interesting challenges – a favourite Moores noun – for a man who has never worked with a relegated side before. There is, however, no doubt as to what the biggest challenge will be. “Getting back into Division One is our number one goal,” Moores said.”It’s really important for us, closely followed by winning a one-day trophy. To achieve both of those things would be our perfect season. The economic impact of playing in the second division isn’t as great in cricket as it is some sports but Lancashire are a big club and we don’t just want to be in the first division, we want to be one of the top sides in that division.”You look around this ground and you say this is a first division club, but the fact is that it isn’t in the first division this year, so we just have to get stuck in and start winning games of cricket. Drawing isn’t good enough. The players have never been lacking in commitment, they realise the expectation of the club and they should take that as a positive.”What might also act as a spur to the Lancashire players is the recollection of their feelings when they were relegated last September. The fact that it had been on the cards for some weeks probably did nothing to soften its reality. Predictably, perhaps, Moores does not shy away from the memory. Instead, he seeks to incorporate it into his preparation.”We’ve experienced winning and losing in two seasons,” said Moores. “The losing is a bigger learner because it stays with you for longer, you can’t get away from it until you can put it right. We have to deal with Lord’s last summer and you do get to a point when you’re very keen to play some more cricket and get yourself back where you want to be.”There are always little things you might want to have done differently but we lost three of the first four games last season and in two of those we had opportunities to win which we didn’t take. After that, it wasn’t that we were getting beaten all the time, it was just that we weren’t getting any wins, largely because of the weather.”There is a fine line between winning and losing in the first division and unless you have a very good start you often find yourself in the middle of the table not knowing whether you’re pushing to win it or pushing to survive. You don’t fluke a Championship and if you add up the number of four-day wins we’ve had since Glen Chapple and I have been here you’d find us in the top two or three sides … Also, this group of players has had two semi-finals and three quarters in the one-dayers, so we have been competitive in all forms of the game for four years.”Perhaps the chief area in which Lancashire’s cricket lacked punching power in 2012 was the top-order batting, so the re-engagement of Ashwell Prince, the only player in the side to average above 30 in last season’s Championship, and the signing of Simon Katich will probably be seen as good news by Old Trafford loyalists. In the bowling department, Sajid Mahmood was released and Gary Keedy allowed to join Surrey, the latter move giving further opportunities to slow left-armer Stephen Parry and the highly rated rookie offspinner Arron Lilley. But perhaps the most interesting signing is that of the ex-Leicestershire allrounder Wayne White, a player who impressed Moores on the club’s pre-season tour to Dubai.”Wayne’s a rapidly emerging cricketer who has found himself a bit later than some,” said Moores. “He was leading wicket-taker for Leicestershire two years in a row but he bats, bowls and fields. He wants to move his game forward and we want to help him do that.”Elsewhere, we’ve made bold decisions by letting players go and that will create opportunities for others. But we’re going to need the experience of senior cricketers around, so Katich and Prince will help that. We want to develop our own players but if we see someone like Wayne who will add something to the side, we’ll be happy to go down that route. There is now terrific competition in the club and it’s maybe something we were missing last year. Each player has to know that there is somebody else snapping away at him, keeping him sharp.”It has been an eventful winter for Moores too. In the autumn he was appointed to the ECB’s Fellowship of Elite Coaches and in March he was one of only two coaches from non-Olympic sports accepted on to UK Sport’s Elite Programme, a recognition, some would say, of his coaching class. The ex-England coach was honoured by both appointments and admits that he has “strong ambitions” for his future career. For the moment, though, he is happy to be where he is.

Positive change in Dhoni's captaincy – Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar has said the break after the England series has had a positive effect on MS Dhoni’s captaincy and with this new approach Dhoni should lead the side till the 2019 World Cup

“With the changed leadership approach I think he should not be disturbed till the 2019 World Cup,” says Sunil Gavaskar•BCCI

Sunil Gavaskar has said the break after the England series has had a positive effect on MS Dhoni’s captaincy and with this new approach Dhoni should lead the side till the 2019 World Cup.”He has changed positively as a captain. Now, if a player is not attentive and not up to the mark, Dhoni is letting him know,” Gavaskar told . “He is not making too many gestures but he is making the player know that he is not happy.”With the changed leadership approach I think he should not be disturbed till the 2019 World Cup,” he said, adding that it would be up to Dhoni to ultimately decide, considering he would be 38 then.Gavaskar said that during India’s home-series loss against England, Dhoni’s captaincy had been defensive and the team was allowing the game to meander. But after the two wins against Australia, Gavaskar said, “Dhoni has recharged and he is in great batting form, though he needs to tighten up a bit in his wicketkeeping.”Dhoni, with the win in the second Test in Hyderabad, surpassed Sourav Ganguly to become the most successful India captain with, 22 wins. Gavaskar said, “records over a period of time indicate that Dhoni is the ‘winningest’ captain and we should be very happy with that.”There will always be the debate whether Tiger Pataudi is the best-ever captain or is it Ajit Wadekar or Sourav Ganguly. And no one talks about Rahul Dravid who has an outstanding overseas record as skipper.”

North Zone look the strongest of the BCL teams

A look at the four zonal teams in the Bangladesh Cricket League, the country’s second first-class tournament, which starts on Thursday

Mohammad Isam26-Dec-2012Mushfiqur Rahim will lead North Zone•AFP

North ZoneMushfiqur Rahim, the Bangladesh captain, will lead the northern region and will have several of his Rajshahi Division team-mates in the side, though there is a fair smattering of players from Rangpur Division. Junaid Siddique, Jahurul Islam, Naeem Islam, Farhad Hossain, Shafiul Islam and Saqlain Sajib make up a side that can be considered the strongest on paper because of their first-class record.Youngsters like allrounder Mahmudul Hasan, left-arm spinner Sanjamul Islam and batsman Litton Kumar Das will add variety to the squad while the experience of Farhad Reza and Suhrawadi Shuvo makes it a tough job for the team’s selectors to pick an eleven without leaving out two or three big-name players.East ZoneNafees Iqbal is the captain of a team that has to surprise the other three teams in the competition in order to progress. Mominul Haque and Faisal Hossain are the most in-form batsmen in the squad and a lot will rest on the shoulders of this duo, one young and one experienced. The older lot including the likes of Aftab Ahmed, Alok Kapali and the captain Nafees will be expected to bat as they usually do, though Aftab and Nafees haven’t been successful first-class players in the last few years. East’s strength would be in the bowling, especially with left-arm spinner Enamul Haque, the National Cricket League’s leading wicket-taker for two seasons now, to take up the responsibility. The language barrier between the players will require a lot of adjustment. Chittagong and Sylhet are regions with very different dialects from each other, as well as the Bengali that is spoken in the other parts of the country.Central ZoneBangladesh vice-captain Mahmudullah will lead a side made up of players from Dhaka Metropolis and Dhaka Division, this year’s runners-up side in the NCL. It is an experienced side with ten international cricketers, though the uncapped Marshall Ayub also adds batting strength.Marshall, the NCL’s top-scorer with 604 runs at an average of 67.11, has scored a double-hundred and a century in his eleven innings for Dhaka Metropolis, while Mehrab Hossain jnr and Shamsur Rahman will also take charge of the batting order. The bowling is spin-based with left-arm spinners Mosharraf Hossain and Elias Sunny, though Talha Jubair and Shahadat Hossain are quick bowlers who are in form. They have all played together in the Dhaka Division side before the BCB formed the Dhaka Metropolis side last season, so familiarity won’t be a problem for these players.South ZoneThis team consists of players from the defending NCL champions Khulna Division, and many of them have done well individually. Barisal Division is the other team in the franchise, and will be represented by the likes of Sohag Gazi and Kamrul Islam Rabbi, among others. The Khulna players will do most of the running with the bat, as the likes of Imrul Kayes, Mohammad Mithun and Tushar Imran have been scoring well in the NCL, while allrounders Ziaur Rahman and Gazi will balance the side. Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak will lead the side and will form an excellent spin attack with Murad Khan and the offspin of Gazi. The big miss, however, will be Shakib Al Hasan, though it is likely that if South Zone make it to the final, he would have sufficiently recovered from his shin injury by then. Shahriar Nafees, the Bangladesh No. 3 batsman, has also not been considered till now, because of his unavailability for Barisal. It was learned that the franchise are likely to include him from the second round.

Gayle, Chanderpaul tons put West Indies in control

It has been a long tour for Zimbabwe, beaten in all six matches against West Indies so far, but on the second day of the Roseau Test they fell under the wheel of Shivnarine Chanderpaul

The Report by Alan Gardner21-Mar-2013

It has been a long tour for Zimbabwe, beaten in all six matches against West Indies so far, but on the second day of the Roseau Test they were presented with a new experience, when they finally fell under the wheel of Shivnarine Chanderpaul. His 28th Test century took him to within one of Bradman – albeit from almost three times as many matches – and, coming after Chris Gayle’s more belligerent effort, left Zimbabwe facing a 206-run deficit and the prospect of another probing from the spin-quisition on Friday.Chanderpaul’s 173-run stand with Denesh Ramdin, who added his second half-century of the series, all but snuffed out Zimbabwean hopes of making a contest of the match. There were numerous half-chances and missed opportunities, and on 88 he was hit on the helmet, but it looked as if Chanderpaul would be there at the close, if not this time next week, until Sean Williams claimed a dubious catch in the covers off Prosper Utseya. Recourse to the third umpire would surely have seen Chanderpaul reprieved – but perhaps even the officials felt that he’d had a long enough go by then.Zimbabwe will have to put up a much stiffer display with the bat if they are going to make West Indies utilise their second innings, but if they absorbed anything other than sweat and dirt during Chanderpaul’s near six-hour stay at the crease then it would be the lessons of self-denial and discipline that are so important for success in Test cricket.Smart stats

Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s century is his 28th in Tests. Among West Indies batsmen, only Brian Lara (34 centuries) has more hundreds.

The century is Chanderpaul’s first against Zimbabwe. In eight Tests, he has scored 393 runs at an average of 35.72.

Among the 22 batsmen with 2000-plus runs after the age of 35, Chanderpaul has the highest average (64.46).

Gayle’s century is his 15th in Tests and second against Zimbabwe. He has scored 6836 runs at an average of 42.45.

Ramdin’s 86 is his fourth-highest score and highest against Zimbabwe. He has scored three centuries and ten fifties at an average of 26.30.

The 173-run stand between Chanderpaul and Ramdin is the second-highest fifth-wicket stand against Zimbabwe. It is also the highest partnership in Tests played in Dominica.

It is easy to caricature Chanderpaul as seemingly the only man alive still playing timeless Tests. Crabbing and shuffling around the crease, he sometimes appears to be shot-less but he is a master accumulator and his occasional glides through the covers and flicks to leg steadily wore the edge off the Zimbabwe bowling. He no longer plays limited-overs cricket and only made 26 in Barbados but here he set his mind to reaching a first Test hundred against Zimbabwe – he only needs Sri Lanka to complete the set – going back above Mahela Jayawardene on the leading run-scorers’ list in the process. Chanderpaul now lies eighth, with Steve Waugh in his ambit. He faced 284 balls for his 108 runs, twice escaping chances to leg slip off Graeme Cremer, who toiled long and hard for his 2 for 102. Zimbabwe’s application could not be faulted, the plodding run rate attesting to their dogged approach in the field, and four wickets fell in the final hour as Cremer and Utseya finally garnered some reward. The spin that had manifested itself so extravagantly on the first day was largely absent for the Zimbabwe bowlers but Shane Shillingford has already proved himself adept on this surface and he will have a chance to assess conditions at the wicket in the morning, should West Indies decide to continue batting.Zimbabwe had started the second day in the best possible fashion, with a wicket from the first delivery – inevitably, it could only go downhill from there. Gayle roused himself after an unusually tentative performance on the previous evening to record his 15th century in Tests – his first significant innings since making 150 and 64 on his comeback last year – but added only 40 to his overnight score before a brilliant catch from Kyle Jarvis removed him for 101.Having collapsed in a tangle of limbs against spin in their first innings, Zimbabwe needed early wickets to prevent the hosts careering away from them. With Gayle and Marlon Samuels at the crease, and a deficit of only 61, there was every prospect of West Indies cracking on but Tendai Chatara threw a sleeper under the train with his opening delivery, full and wickedly swinging from leg stump to hit off as Samuels played around the ball. The unexpected breakthrough ended a 79-run partnership and allowed the bowlers to create some pressure. Chatara, in particular, extracted seam movement from the pitch but after Gayle’s dismissal with the score on 181 – and the lead just 6 – the bowlers were to send down more than 50 wicketless overs in succession as the fourth-wicket pairing of Chanderpaul and Ramdin ground on, inch by unforgiving inch.Chanderpaul may be among the most difficult batsmen in Test cricket to dislodge but he required a bit of luck as he was starting out, edging Chatara short of the slips and nearly playing on to Jarvis. There was also a sharp chance to leg slip against Cremer but Hamilton Masakadza was unable to get his hands under the ball; a review was wasted when an Utseya delivery was shown to be pitching outside leg and missing off. After scoring a couple of early boundaries, Chanderpaul battened down the hatches. Gayle, too, seemed becalmed, as 44 came from the first 17 overs of the day. Even in Test cricket, Gayle is hard to tie down, however, and he moved from 81 to 100 in five deliveries, three of them swatted lazily over the ropes. One run after reaching his century, Gayle miscued taking the attack to Utseya again but it took a terrific catch from Jarvis, running in circles under a swirling ball at wide long-off, to remove him. Gayle had been sent to Room 101 and, late in the day, Sibanda failed to grasp a catch with Chanderpaul on the same score. It may not be difficult to work out which player the Zimbabweans would have chosen to consign for all eternity.
